Frequently Asked Questions

What is high-pressure washing?

Water enters a high-pressure pump and is forced through a restricted nozzle to develop the high-pressure. In the same manner you would use a paint brush, we utilize the force or strength of the water pressure with a 40° fan-shaped tip or nozzle combined with proper detergents to remove layers of dirt and/or paint oxidation or other foreign material from siding without unsightly scrub-brush marks and swirls

What is chemical cleaning?

Chemical cleaning, at least pertaining to siding washing, is the use of various bio-degradable detergents in the high-pressure process to assist in cleaning.  High-pressure will not clean alone.  A detergent will not do the job by itself.  Combine the two properly and they become valuable tools in the cleaning process.

Will these detergents harm my lawn or shrubs?

All the detergents used in our process are bio-degradable, which means they will not harm grass, shrubs, valuable plantings and pets.  The soaps are even safe on the siding that they are made to clean.  The detergent used in our process was developed by a chemist specifically for our use.  The specialtysoap combined with the very best equipment and trained crews makes for a very safe operation.

What is mildew?

Mildew is a fungus which grows on dirty, moist, warm, shaded surfaces.  It looks like spots of dirt but won't come off with soap and water.  It is especially important to kill the fungus and remove it before restaining or repainting siding or trim.

Why does my siding get chalky and fade?

What happens is the surface is oxidizing, a natural process usually effecting most painted surfaces, especially on the sunny or south exposure of your home.  Some paints are even made to chalk as a self cleaning feature but regardless of intent it appears unsightly as the color of your house changes and fades.

Should I wash my windows before or after you clean the siding?

After.  In the process of washing some soap or water may slip in between the top and bottom storm windows so it is a good idea to wash the windows after we are done.

I am planning to paint the house. Should I scrape before or after washing?

Don't do any scraping until after washing is complete.  Depending on how many layers of paint are chipping and peeling, our high-pressure wash technique will remove approximately 80% of loose paint.  This will save you valuable time to paint instead of scrape.  The washing process will remove any dirt, mildew or paint oxidation, leaving a clean paintable surface.

Should I remove my shutters before you wash?

It is really not necessary.  High-pressure water can be directed to go where you want it to, including behind shutters which cleans them very well.  The only time you would want to take shutters down is when you are going to paint the house, in which case you would have to take them down anyway.

Is there any obligation or charge if I ask you to come to my home for an estimate?

Absolutely not!  In fact, we would rather come out and look at you home to give you a written estimate.  It is not fair to you or us to ask for a price over the phone because it's impossible to give an accurate figure without actually seeing your home.  Each home is different and will have individual problems with its siding, depending on age, color condition, quality and location.  The advantage of allowing us to come to your house for an inspection is clear - we can measure the house and look it over, recognize any specific problems and give you an accurate estimate.

How long is the price on the estimate sheet good for and are there any hidden charges?

Estimate prices are valid for 90 days.  All estimate prices are solid.  There are no hidden charges.  You pay exactly what the estimate states.  The only time it would change is if you were to subtract a portion of the building being cleaned or add something that was not on the estimate to begin with.

Now that I have agreed to have my house washed what are my responsibilities prior to cleaning?

Close all doors and windows tightly and lock them.  Remove full screens or lift half screens 4"-6" so that we can fully flush the sills of your windows.  Make sure main water is turned on to the outside faucet nearest the driveway.  Remove all hanging plants, decorations, etc. (anything that can be damaged by high pressure.) Lawn or patio furniture and any large objects should be moved so as to not impede cleaning process.
